I love Houston but I would consider Chicago one day. Every experience I’ve had there has been overwhelmingly enjoyable. Of course I’m a tourist. I don’t live the experience. But the hyperbole these people espouse is kind of creepy.

I accidentally ended up living in Chicago for two years. Personally, it was not for me. But as a city, it's S-tier. For whatever reason, I thought it was going to be post-industrial/polluted/decaying. I was not prepared for how absolutely stunning Lake Michigan is.
I do have relatives who live north of Chicago. But every experience I have had in the city has been been fantastic. Just a great, friendly place in my view.
I don’t typically consider myself a Big City person, but my one trip to Chicago was phenomenal. Like you, I’ve only been there as a tourist, but I would absolutely consider moving there if life pulled us in that direction.
If I didn't live in Minneapolis then my 2nd choice would be Chiggity.
It's a beautiful city, rich in culture and history.
Chicago is lovely. It would be my next choice after HOU, but it has all the same problems. There's bad parts of town, there's visible homelessness, but that's true pretty much anywhere in the country. The first point stands. Chicago is lovely.
any place that has +1 person than where they live is an irredeemably crime ridden hellhole and it's just the most candy coated piss babyness. Oh noooooo you might have to walk next to someone in the parking lot, grow up.
