Yeah, in my early years in SF, that was my go-to shop.
Yeah, in my early years in SF, that was my go-to shop.
I bought maybe 3 bikes there.
Two here. Plus parts/tuneup for the one that I refurbed and donated to a homeless org in town. Plus accessories. Plus referrals.
Part of me wants to walk in occasionally w/ someone, mid-sentence, so they hear one of us say "... and it's so AAMAAAAZZZEEE that this bike shop is right here on the BIKE LANE. Like omigod. You guys were so smart to open up right here on the BIKE LANE... no, just looking"
Look I'm just celebrating that Valencia has been relatively unfucked after the center lane fuckery. The left turn situations and connections with other streets are still an issue. Someday it will be pedestrianized or at least made a slow street and this will all seem so stupid in retrospect.
The thought of Valencia pedestrianized is sort of salivating. That would be very very cool.
Everyone would win. Especially the shops and restaurants.
Good luck persuading them of that. There IS an argument for limited vehicle access, at least on the side streets if not the thoroughfare. Mountain View has just about got it right after narrowing the street and taking cars out of the core. The cross streets are open, but also narrow and slow.
it's already stupid in retrospect as much as it was prospectively stupid, especially the "we had an idea" center lane dalliance that cost so many years and some injuries. Every time we're there (often) and see packed sidewalks and busy shops, someone says "OMG It's dead. Bike lane killed it."
