As an ex-cop from a very large and consistently news making department, I can assure you there are no good cops anywhere. That included me, every cop knows at least one who is into some heinous shit and doesn't speak up.

I saw more effort put into protecting wife beaters, child abusers and habitual drunk drivers who were cops than protecting the public. My field training officer was finally convicted for SA of a DV victim.
The sheriff I was under ended his life in a county vehicle with a county issue 12Ga shortly after a forthcoming indictment was rumored. The same person told us to stop any black drivers (guess what word was used) with out of state tags, search the vehicle and figure out the probable cause later.
PC was (and probably still is) easy enough. The K-9 units were trained to alert when certain hand signals/tugs on the lead were made. This and much more over my three year attempt at this line of work. I didn't just resign (in '91), I surrendered my POST certification.
