I'm confused by the phrase "Maxwell Avenue bridge over Interstate 494" in the article. Maxwell Ave. in Newport goes under I-494. It loops around and crosses the US-10/MN-61 highway on a bridge, where it turns into Bailey Road, which does have a bridge over I-494. Which bridge was it?
No one should pull into traffic they can’t see - I’ve seen several accidents caused by drivers being waived out and pulling in front of moving cars. Also stopping when you have the right of way puts people in danger. One car stops - but there are still three other lanes of traffic…
It was a marked crosswalk and the cyclist had the legal right of way. Quit with the victim blaming and try not to be such an asshat.
I bike and we are to follow traffic laws. Bikers are not pedestrians. I see people do this exact dangerous thing all the time at trail crossings.

The law is clear. Drivers must yield to BOTH pedestrians and cyclists in a crosswalk.
The real issue is physics not the law. Stopping distance for a car at 50 mph vs a bike entering a crosswalk at 17 mph. I stay off roads cause I am afraid of cars and never go out in traffic when waived out. Be safe, not right.
Exactly. Biking is risky. I was going 50 on a hwy and a cyclist made a sudden left without signaling and not at a crosswalk or intersection. In about three car lengths I managed to get down to about 25 mph before impacting his front wheel. Miracle that he was fine . He said he didn’t see me. 🤨

Unless they went to the police station when they fled or did a blood test for DUI at that time, they were breaking the law by not staying. And they probably didn't stay because they were over the legal limit of alcohol consumption. They didn't stay for the testing. We know....

Just another reason not to visit the US, people there are just insane on the road. There was a place, in Las Vegas I think, they started controls, the amount of kids being run over was all over the place, 2 or 3 digits, and there were people complaining about freedom and all this shit, truly insane
But it's the robocars that people fear.
As a cyclist myself, this is my worst nightmare. A motorist runs over the cyclist and fails to call for help, leaving him to bleed in the street. I hope Tinucci is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Half the time when we ask for stop signs we're told we can't have them because if there are too many drivers just stop obeying signs
