I’m consumed with concern about the pets of our dead neighbors. That’s my next/first/only book: the pets of our dead neighbors. We will not let them down. But wow it’s a grueling honor for sure.

Thank you for making sure they're all looked after!
🙏
A neighbor died & the landlord evicted her cats into the neighborhood. That cat distribution network thingy sent most of them to me! It’s what we do.
My dog belonged to a guy who lived alone in a rural area; when his owner died at home, it was 3 days before anyone noticed and EMTs came. He's very lucky he had enough water in the bowl and that somebody noticed the man was gone at all.
Being a good neighbor is everything! Thank you for looking after the pets. 😺💕
Thank you for taking such good care of them all.
When the details of the death of Gene Hackman and his wife came out, I was sad for their lonely end. Since I have dog family, the death of one of their dogs was particularly horrible to contemplate. Community is essential and isolation is a danger.
You're the best kind of people ♥️
Can we help? Obviously, limited by distance, but if there is a way that we can help, let us know. Community doesn’t have to be limited by geography.
I’m in a 55+ neighborhood. I learned a neighbor who’d just moved in died, leaving an orange cat and a striped cat. Another neighbor took them right in. 😻 😻 I’m very grateful when I hear of agreements among neighbors to provide a home for one another’s pets. Plans matter for 🐱 🐶 . Can’t wait for 📕.
Glad to know I’m not the only one who thinks like this.
Planning for that when single: Get a life ins. policy with your vet or rescue org as beneficiary. Leave written instructions w/ vet and emerg contact that cats are to go to vet with adoption prep vetting (make sure vet will accept this) Contact local rescues (only 501(c)3s) 1/3
Arrange with one+ to accept your cats from the vet to place for adoption. If your cat(s) are adopted from a rescue, make sure they have a "take back" clause. Provide all of the rescue/adoption information to your vet and make sure their surrender fees are covered from your life ins. policy. 2/3
Pets are considered property, and so your arrangements need to be in the form of contracts. You need to specify in your emergency info who is to transport the pets to the vet and turn over their care to them and the designated rescue(s). Do a yearly check in w/ the vet & rescue to update them.
I believe those who cohabitate with "pets" should include them in their Will, as to care and living arrangements, should they die before their fur family. And to revisit these arrangements in the manner that requires updating of Wills.
Your neighbors were lucky to have you guys there
