In that sense they’re not dissimilar from many other cultures who immigrated to the US. Italians, Germans, Chinese, all kinds of Slavs etc all raised kids without their traditional language.

Of course, it's pretty much a requirement for assimilation here in the States. But my point is more- it actually wasn't that long ago. Not as long as they want us to think it was.
