I used to hang with google people in 2000 - 2002. Wrote a girlfriend's cover letter a resume so she got a job there. She'd never heard of google before that. Google folks were mostly terrible people. They were terrified of Serge and Larry and Larry's girlfriend.

At least one woman bragged about looking at her ex boyfriend's gmail account. They mocked friends who worked at Alta Vista to their faces. They were openly anti-semitic saw a grown man reduced to tears. Google was built on porn searches in the early days. That's what got them off the ground

I will say that a fully grown nerd gave me, a stranger, crap for having a Newton 2000 and a Ricochet packet radio modem on Caltrain in 1997 or so. "What's the matter, can't wait until you get to work to check your email? Huhuhuhuh"
