Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey is now on my radar for the Next Generation of Democratic Leaders. Along with Jasmine Crockett. www.cnn.com/2025/08/27/u...
Jacob has Been a Complete Failure to Mpls! He Lied, made promises and have Kept Zero of them All while pushing to Increase Our Taxes to pay the corrupt MPD More $$ while doing Nothing to help Our rent and Homeless Crisis! F Gentrifrey!
How about trump jr, Steve Miller, Ivanka?
Empathy❤️
I’ll add. He’s not very well thought of, among the people he governs. It was a good speech though. That’s kind of his shtick, talking a good game.
He did a great job yesterday but overall performance not great- he is my mayor. One example is he flipped flipped 3 times in a two month period before the election on police funding-fund police with increased community supports, defund the police, then kinda defund the police and do “something”
It's easy to be the one saying the right things in front of the camera, it's very different to be the one who's doing the real work and change making both before and after the tragedies. Some people are standing out simply because they're the lesser evil, that's not enough anymore to keep the job
🎯
You could sense him trying desperately to to contain his rage for this happening again and in his community. You could also sense him containing his sadness at the grief of the parents and pain and suffering of the children involved!
One to watch.
He gave a good speech. But his management of the police, of homelessness, of housing: terrible
Oh. No. Slow your roll. Mayor Frey was not supportive of community outcry over George Floyd murder, and desperately needed police reforms. I think you might want to look at his Mayoral challenger Omar Fateh, if you want progressive Dems
😂😂😂
I live in the Twin Cities. While Frey was impassioned and impressive yesterday, he is not ready to be elevated in Dem ranks. He needs to do more than just a good speech; he needs tangible action. Maybe someday but not today.
Hear,hear!
Emerging heroes and leaders. Talk them up, contribute.
You need to watch his interview on @newshour.bsky.social tonight. He’s the leader the Dems have been looking for.
um, no.
St Paul here. Hard pass on Frey.
Same. He has passion and a gentle soul
I don’t think you know much about him other than a single great speech. He is not popular among his democratic base - has been very ineffectual
Please don't assume what I know and what I don't know. All I do know is you don't know me .
Correct. I didn’t mean to offend you but he is not popular with dems in Minneapolis - he has been mediocre at best.
Very thankful for the police chief who repeated the questions he was asked before he answered.
Mayor Frey I agree children & adults in a church praying are gunned down by a very sick person and anyone saying thoughts and prayers is missing the point! Cuts by the Trump administration on mental health access is a problem! Not passing gun reforms is a problem! We need legislation to combat it!
Me too
Don't judge him based on one outstanding speech. There a lot of reasons he is not material for "the Next Generation of Democratic Leaders."
Nope. Please listen to the actual residents of the city. Frey is a corporate puppet. Saying good things sometimes does not directly correlate to measurable action and outcome. The leader Minneapolis needs is Fateh.
Thank God! Thank you for sharing!
Add @jamestalarico.bsky.social to that list (that @petebuttigieg.bsky.social is also on).
I really like him too!

You will [never] see a Republican politician speak from the heart so eloquently and with this kind of passion for American citizens except, and I can only think of one, Adam Kinzinger!
Thank you. He is what we need! No more old people hanging on long after their time passed to help WE THE PEOPLE!
Is this sarcasm? What a ridiculous ticket that would be. A waste of time and money.
Heartbreaking, anguish, and infuriated, tears. So many emotions. Heartfelt sympathy.
actually it does not take much to be a leader in this environment - just speak the truth and ignore the bullshit😇
Absolutely not as a Minneapolis resident we don’t want him as mayor -
This is NOT just going to go away…the courts are not going to save us & Trump is not going to be “voted” out (remember Jan 6?) WAKE up America & unite! Sort out your differences later! Help Shut it all down. Nationwide General Strike: generalstrikeus.com
And Max Frost from Florida!
Yes, passion and courage.
Was thinking that as I watched that last night as well
He's an empty suit.
Nope
He is certainly a great communicator. Hope he runs for higher office soon to push for gun reform.
One time he was- not typical
I'm sure he will fail some purity test and be eaten alive.
Sorry, no. This was a great speech, but he’s really bad here.
It’s tragic that Union Station is more secure than US primary schools. Yet Trump sends National Guards to Union Station instead. Until when guns are banned
Everyone, please listen to the locals when you think you’ve found the next big thing. Frey gave a very impassioned statement today, for sure. He excels at this sort of thing. His stances and policies have led him out of favor with many of his constituents. He could well be on his way out.
I’m not his constituent, but trust me, Minnesotans won’t steer you wrong. We’ll tell you when there’s a good one. (Walz)
Its time for a new generation of leadership. Across the board.
A special voice.
There are many, many good American citizens who are coming up in the ranks and they will be a force to be reckoned with imo. Hope is on the way.
They are politicians who work for the people. I align with their political ethics.
No.
He reminds me so much of Jon Ossoff. I had to look when he was talking, because he sounds just like him.
I as well!
No, he sucks. He just had a good speech writer today.
Same
I wouldn't count on it until you talk to some Minneapolitans for a reality check.
Don’t get too excited about him.
Great minds think alike.
Wrong, he is THIS generation"s of Dem Leaders!!!!
2026 Congressional elections represent the whole ball of wax. If GOP controls the 120th Congress, the US constitutional republic as we have known it ends. Dems need not worry about wealthy donors when their party has been officially declared 'Domestic Extremist Organization' & arrest warrants issued
John Osssoff, Wes Moore, Josh Shapiro, Matt Mahan - Mayor of San Jose, CA and Andy Beshear
1 interview. lol
He's really not though. He's a mouthpiece.
Omg no
Please keep it up !!
No honey, he’s not a leader. He talks and does nothing. Used to live in Mpls, so I know.
You bet. Thoughtful, articulate under fire, genuine.
Good speech but are you all really basing your opinion of him from one speech? Have you followed him through his term? Being in the Mpls area, I can tell you he’s ok but not great and not leadership material. He’s made quite a few mistakes and sometimes in over his head. Learn about someone first
💯 I am sitting here nodding my head vigorously!
Just watched him on Jen Psaki. What a great messenger. You could see the pain in his eyes. Yea indeed. He’s got promise.
Send in the National Guard already!
um, no.
For me, Catelin Drey is an actual inspiring figure, next-gen leader. Dems need to put a donation for her to hold her seat so she will be there a full term. And no, I'm not finding Catelin Drey or Iowa Democratic party on bluesky? 🤔
Well, I found this group. I hope they pass it along. @iowacodems.bsky.social
His reviews by Minnneapolitans are mixed, but he’s handsome AF and very likable. This appearance definitely put him on the nationwide map.
He's not very popular in Minneapolis. I live in the burbs, so I have no opinion on him.
I know nothing about this mayor, but he does articulate my feelings. I wish and wish and wish we could change our gun laws. Why won't our legislators do something when the majority of us want them to do more. It's another heartbreaking scene.
I love Minneapolis but Jacob Frye is not a good mayor he gave a great speech and we appreciate that, but he literally got a vote of no confidence by not winning the primary. Instead of taking the L he decided to screw over Minneapolis for the next 2 years because his feelings got hurt.
As a Twin Cities resident, keep looking. He's been solid in this crisis, but he's been mediocre at best on a regular basis.
Not once you look deeper
One tragedy, and we're jumping to conclusions, ugh! I need more than this. Jasmine Crockett has proven herself worthy of our admiration. I know nothing about this mayor other than his name, and he's a Democrat.
I’m late but you are so very wrong unfortunately, no offense. He’s in the corporations’ pocket and is a whole idiot.
He had a great moment, and you can be forgiven for thinking he's capable (he fooled us too) but he's 100% more of the same shit that got dems where we are now.
Yes! In a crisis, leaders emerge.
2026 Congressional elections represent the whole ball of wax. If GOP controls the 120th Congress, the US constitutional republic as we have known it ends. Dems need not worry about wealthy donors when their party has been officially declared 'Domestic Extremist Organization' & arrest warrants issued
I came to speak for what I heard in Minneapolis, but Minnesota has left the comments already
The future of our party!!
Same
He showed strength with emotion and sorrow.
Jasmine Crockett is on my list as well. She hits it out of the park often. Pretty much daily. And that's what we need. No more of the single lame sound bite that comes out of most of the Dems lately. Kind of like a strongly worded letter. And they are proud of themselves for that. We have to FIGHT!
Vote for Trump you will get dump.
Agree 👍
YES
Hi from Minnesota. Take him back off your radar.
He is great!
He is impressive, a sad to meet him though 😞
The comments below are overwhelming negative. But maybe this will wake him up ! Or maybe we are just so desperate for some new blood.
He's a butch boy fuck all those mentally ill trans scums
YES!!!😃👏🏼
We had a mayor nobody ever heard of run for President in 2020.
He couldn’t even get the party nomination for the fall, then went and cried to the state party when he lost it.
Nonono . He has been a horrible mayor.
Yep
There are better options
Only the brave
He should ban arms in Minneapolis whatever 4th amendment says. That would be a political stand.
Minnesota is full of good people.
Frey suuuuucks. He is a corporate lackey who hates the homeless, and said really out of pocket shit about remote workers because his big business backers were mad their buildings are vacant.
He's also gorgeous. Which helps, when there are so many ugly republicans around.
He is a stand up guy
Not so much 😐
He was fantastic during the George Floyd riots. He’s definitely got a future if he wants it.
This is sarcasm, right? RIGHT!?!
No. He's been a barrier to police reform and I won't be ranking him at all on the upcoming mayoral ballot.
I can’t tell if you’re being genuine or sarcastic, but no. I lived pretty close to where GF was murdered at the time, and his pathetic handling of that situation is what turned me (and MANY others) off Frey for good. He’s a useful tool for the wealthy “progressives” and nothing else.
Can confirm this through very close friends who lived (and still do) near GF square. I think this speech was likely genuine but he’s had some ugly moments.
Mine as well.
I’d like to add to the list the Governor of Washington, Bob Ferguson. 👍 Mayor Bibb of Cleveland, OH also. We have some awesome Dem leaders if Schumer, Pelosi and the other duds in leadership would just leave and go add to their fortunes somewhere else.
Same
I swear to God the first person who says our thoughts and prayers are with the families… they need to be throat punched and trolled forever on all social media and if public figure at all events… I don’t fucking want to hear it.. STFU or be part of the solution…
Agree
He just lost his primary lol
There is no primary. Minneapolis uses ranked choice voting. You may be thinking of the state party (DFL) endorsing an opponent, which has since been pulled.
lol you’re right, no surprise a bunch of white politicians find a way to screw a POC over.
Oh God please no. He's a corporate shill who only cares about his wealthy donors. He just happened to have a good speechwriter today.
He should have been long ago. Dynamic, focused, and treats EVERYONE equally. #Minneapolis
I agree! He's a true leader!
He did well yesterday but not typical of what he does for Minneapolis- everyone here wishes for a better dem candidate to support
Check out Francis Maxwell's reaction. More media should respond this way www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xbK...
He's gonna be PRIMARIED!
If Frey and Crockett are the future of the Democratic Party, the Democrats will not win a general election in the next 20 years. Progressives cannot win the South or swing states. Progressive policy is extremely unpopular.
Progressive policies are so popular that Frey, the DNC, Cuomo, and many in the Democratic Party undermine candidates who believe in them. Have you seen what they’ve been doing to Mamdani?
He sucks.
Don’t forget Washington state governor Ferguson. As attorney general, he led states attorneys in suits against the first Trump administration. Powerful statement a few days ago defending our state’s sanctuary status. He’s 60ish.
Absolutely!
Cringe.
The Schumers and Pelosis will be pushed out of their seats in the next election... If they can't recognize that they are at the end of the road, we'll get them some new glasses so they can see the hand writing on the wall.
So relieved to see locals clarify that Frey is not the one. Because he is NOT the one. St Paul’s Mayor Carter, on the other hand…would do nicely.
Well, you should remove him. He's a horrible mayor and works for big donors and not us (us = the citizens of Minneapolis). He, and the donors/DFL elite, forced the withdrawal of the DEM endorsement of a mayoral rival. Frey might look and sound good right now, but he is a bad mayor.
We need more leaders like him.
Get crazy Laura Loomer to tell Trump to register all firearms
Frey is a corrupt incompetent who will hopefully be consigned to the dustbin of history come November.
Totally agree.
🩵
No, he actually sucks. One good press conference doesn’t fix how much he has messed up.
Don't. Rank. Frey. All talk and no action. Friend to corporations and foe to the common human.
He’s clearly got what it takes to lead. His comments yesterday regarding the shooting were perfect.
chng.it/Hg4Q8ZHmbf
As a Minnesotan, I'm proud he's one of ours.
When it comes to the prevention of school shootings, the Trump Effect hurts more than it helps: Trump’s incitement of the January 6 Insurrection, cuts in gun violence prevention & cuts to social programs i.e education & health care. Thoughts & prayers offered by Republicans = ultimate hypocrisy.
Hubert Humphrey would be proud
Humphrey was pro-union and pro-police reform, Frey is the opposite. I don't think Humphrey would appreciate that.
He’s a good man!
Don't forget Melanie Stansbury!
Exactly
Is it really the right message when you've surrounded yourself with armed people? After a shooting?
Yeah, we kinda want him out
No question about it, some of the old guard have got to go in the Democratic Party. I don’t hear them at all, if I don’t hear you we don’t need you.
@mayorjacobfrey.bsky.social
I concur!
Ope!!… I’m sorry but no thank you!! Don’t let this one speech fool you. He is a right leaning, corporate fan boy, wolf in sheep’s clothing. He and his buddies are responsible for the DLF pulling their endorsement of the democratic socialist mayoral candidate Fateh. MN says don’t trust him!!!
Thanks for the info! We lived in MN for 18 years, and my husband used to operate 2 ALCs for The City, Inc. in Minneapolis. We live in VT now, so it's helpful to hear from you and others in that area who know who Frey truly is. Being responsible for the endorsement w/d of Fateh is the red line for me
Such heart!! Just the right tone…….love Mayor Frey!!
James Talarico (TX) is the one that has really impressed me. It's more impressive because I'm as non-religious as can be, while Talarico certainly is. But his views is common-sense and has a great approach to getting people of any (or no) faiths on his side. I can follow that.
He spoke well today, but you need to look into him more before putting him on the next gen list. Not even close to Crockett’s league.
He was really strong with the George Floyd murder. Has taken some odd positions which has gotten him in a bit of trouble with voters. But he was real good today.
"really strong with the..." What? No. No, he was not. He knows how to give a speech, sure, but as for actually leading, hell no.
His non support around the murder of George Floyd, that is, his support of the police, was not impressive. And hey there, DOOMTREE fan 🤗
I also like Senator John Osfoff of Georgia.
Huh. As someone who lives in Minneapolis, I would quickly move him back off your radar.
And Larry Krasner, Philadelphia!
DA
Yeesh. Another white man? Come ON. WE HAVE TO DO BETTER.
I thought the same 💙😎
James Talarico from Texas also!
The Mayor is far from perfect, but he's pretty awesome.
Pritzker, Newsome, Buttigieg, Walz, Harris (still). Love Jasmine.
Take him back off your radar. He just cheated his competitor out of a legitimate nomination that Frey lost. And he is taking money from rich landlords, police PACs, and corporate interests. He's a centrist that continues to veto the progressive Minneapolis City council.
cmarmitage.substack.com/p/its-time-f... Looks like they have been prepping for some time
You mean we don’t know all of the Democratic Representatives in every State? You mean we don’t know where they all stand or what they are doing? Maybe we should get behind Thai opposition party more often
Mine too! We need their COURAGE!!!!
Dear Betty, I would like to submit my name for consideration to run for office. I have no experience, I have no idea how government works. I'd like to make some side money using my office power. But, I don't hate anyone. I'll work on that. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
And Maxwell Frost.
✅
Elections? The military should have removed them all by now. Not doing so will be fatal to our Democracy.
Lol, the guy that whined because someone beat him for his own party's endorsement? That's a fat no.
Same. He’s got “it”
There ARE great ones out there like Crockett, Ossoff, Frost, Moscowitz, AOC, Swalwell, and older ones like Raskin and Warnock. America NEEDS those who will inherit this country to be able to run it. Let Pelosi retire and let Newsom replace her. She has had her day along with others like Schumer
Let's have a long list, and all of them, and all of us, need to work together. Can we have the friendliest primaries ever?
As a Minnesotan NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE!
He's already THIS generation's leader. It's how it goes. Always has. Always will.
We need them everywhere. "Up and down the ballot", as they say.
📌
Oh you like Frey huh? Tell me more about why you think uber drivers don’t deserve any worker’s benefits
Only if he’s on board with universal healthcare. Any democrat not on board with universal healthcare can join the GOP.
Check out Antonio Delgado. He's running against Hochul and he's the real deal.
He also treats unhoused people horribly.
No, he’s really not worthy of it. Because of one tragic and horrific situation, he doesn’t deserve this. Look at how he’s handled the Lake Street riots, MPD murders, etc. please don’t make this a thing.
you are a non-sentient being if you think this guy has a future in politics
He is super unliked in the city. I trust them.
Uh, nice speech but let's pump the brakes here a bit eh??? He just got politically embarrassed because his city hasn't really been feeling him so to speak.
He looks good on tv in a crisis, but doesn’t follow through with governance. There’s a picture of him crying at George Floyd’s casket, but he’s consistently gone against city council recommendations for police reform, Floyd memorial, etc.
I agree- I was very impressed with his speech today.
Mayor Frey is ... complicated. I confess, I've been irritated by the gushing commentary around the Iowa Senate seat. This flip was not surprising to those of us from Iowa. If you don't really know a state, please don't make comments based on photo ops, one-day coverage, and fragments of info.
Thank u
