And if you want to check if a tsunami has actually been recorded in a given area of the US coast, you can check NOAA gauges. What you're looking for is a squiggle on the graph that doesn't look like either the normal tides or usual noise: tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/stations.html

So is this indicative of a tsunami? I’m not sure what I’m looking at other than the preliminary readings being more escalated than expected? (Did I get that part right?

Take a look at the time scale to see. It's showing the last two days, which lets you know that this is just the normal tides!
