How would you know if you like something at a restaurant you never ate at. Why are you being so f'ing obtuse. If AI worked this would be a good use... 'before I order a $50+ meal at a place I've never been to go out and synthesize the consensus as to what this restaurant is good at preparing.'

At the vast majority of restaurants, there isn't much difference in quality between the dishes, so it comes down to whether you like, eg, spicy food. The worst thing that's likely to happen if you don't make the best choice is that you still get a perfectly pleasant meal.

The ridiculous lengths you will go to avoid aknowledging that your initial criticism may be overdone is down right Trumpian.

What? Look, do you not eat much of a variety of food generally? Because I have genuinely never had an issue looking at the one-line descriptions on a menu and getting an idea of what I fancy.

Not majorly, no. Where I have been, it's been about the choice of restaurant rather than the dish.

I look at the menu, imagine what the dish is like based on its description, and then imagine whether I would enjoy it. It's deeply weird that I need to explain this.

It's deeply weird that people have been creating and consuming restaurant reviews of various forms for nearly a century when all they had to do was read a menu.

You're really not beating the "has never been to a human restaurant or read an actual restaurant review" allegations here.

I have, in fact, read a lot of restaurant reviews, and even written a few, and never once did I imagine that any reader would be trying to "synthesize a consensus" on how to "optimize" their menu choice.

And if the restaurant has specific stuff on their menu that they're bad at preparing, or the menu doesn't accurately reflect the food... that's a bad restaurant! If you're already at a bad restaurant you're not going to salvage the situation by asking around for the One Good Menu Item.
