A base, by definition, is a party's most reliable voters. Any group "turning on them" is no party's base.

We have a big tent, not a tent to shove a bunch of white old men in. When you have such a large tent nothing can be agreed on but we all move in the right direction. When one group throws a fit then we are divided and we will never move forward.
Get over it. I'm more pissed that Mitch McConnell kept a supreme Court Justice from Obama. I'm more upset at losing rights and watching my brothers and sisters starve. If they can keep us divided then we will never be successful.
And the democrats let him do it. Obama should have asserted his presidential right to appoint a judge. I understand the call for unity. But we need to challenge those in power to actually represent us. Here in Cali, things are swinging right because leadership has been ineffectual. …
The right has been blaming leftist policy for this inefficiency. Crime, homelessness, etc. But the reality is that most of the things people are unhappy with are a result of capitalism. It is always “more jobs” and never “we should rein in the housing market”.
By that logic, the base of any party are the brainwashed true believers who will vote blue regardless of policy. That is an insane belief. A parties base are those whose interests are ultimately served by the party. Politicians are supposed to exist for us. Not the other way around.
It not "logic", it a definition. A party is an affiliation, not an ideology.
An affiliation based on one’s ideology. Otherwise the democratic party would be full of Christian nationalists.
