Alnwick 1851. www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk/nbl3209.htm Pronounced ‘Annick’, today’s #map portrays a fine castle seen in both #HarryPotter and #DowntonAbbey, a fascinating public garden and a beautiful northern town, so why are we sharing an image of a boring column? The answer – Crap landlords. 1/2

A sample from out Alnwick 1851 map, newly released and only £3.50 plus postage. Printed map is clearer than sample.

The 1816 Tenantry Column was paid for by ‘grateful’ tenants of the 2nd Duke of Northumberland, many were also part of a unit raised by him to fight Napoleon. It thanked the Duke for dropping rents by 25% during a post-war recession. After doubling them during the war, it must be noted. Nice Chap. /2

Alnwick 1851 map cover, this time a cheeky light burgundy colour.
