I think you are working under a misapprehension. I am not suggesting MAGA or the right wing makes up a majority of Americans. I am suggesting that the conceit of exceptionalism that is prevalent makes it easy for movements like MAGA to gain power, even though they aren't a majority.
MAGA is a small % of the population. We have been ruled by the minority for years.
Exceptionalism is not gaining hold of more people. Christian nationalism, MAGA, oligarchy.. we are under a coup.
The conceit of exceptionalism is certainly less prevalent now than it was 10 years ago, thanks in no small part to the humiliation a lot of Americans feel at having Trump and his movement destroying America's reputation, human rights, and technological advantages.
