People who give themselves the titles “raconteur,” “polymath,” or “autodidact”… why
People who give themselves the titles “raconteur,” “polymath,” or “autodidact”… why
It's a veneer over a shallow knowledge, excess of ego and a twist of insufferability.
Heh
Gotta fever?
Add [RANK], [SERVICE] (Ret.) to that list
IRL, I know a woman who changed her name to Rainbow, and another chose Freya, and one who pronounced "Iris" with a short I. They would call themselves all of the above honoratives as well. But we still sit down to pee.
As a man, I’m here to tell you, sitting down is the superior way to pee. No shame in my game.
If a guy self-describes as a ‘bon vivant’, they 100% work at a Warhammer store and are in a polycule with the rest of the staff.
That one too
Had a friend who fit this description to a T. No lies detected. Never got an invite
In a polycule with their waifu pillows and chatbots
Choke laughter is coming out of me right now. So on point lol.
Not all of those are titles. Some are descriptions. One who becomes skilled through self education instead of formal education is an autodidact. What’s wrong with that one? I sometimes describe myself as an autodidact. It’s accurate. You’re a “love muscle”? What’s up with that?
“Consigliere” 🙄
“Strategist”
Yo
Ouch.
Not aimed at you, friend. It was more…
Of course, just had to laugh at that one. Yes, *gestures broadly* We see them.
"Contrarian"
Ick
"Thought leader"
I forgot "disruptive thinker"!
ngl, these are the most annoying ones because they think that taking the opposite side in every decision and asking annoying questions is a personality. the rest can go in the wood chipper too, but second
Disrupter
Feet first.
Story teller Influencer
"Storyteller" has been appropriated by some of the absolute worst people that are utterly incapable of spinning a yarn. And that's why I, who am clearly superior, refer to myself as a "folklorist."
Yes but does that include middle aged, first LT PAO reservists who can’t find a civilian job and are constantly on orders with special operations but have really no idea how the normal Army works?
👀👀👀
I don't even know who is being referenced here but it sounds like a devastating read so I'm here for it
Also - I’m usually suspicious of folks who join the reserve at middle age, leave their entire life behind and then let the military consume their personality. But this isn’t nearly as weird as a late 40s civil affairs reservist, “security and fitness expert” who is a potentially sentient robot.
I mean seems nice enough but can you imagine your first Army reserve experience as a junior officer is airborne or some sort of special operations and you’re buddies with Command Sargent Major? Doesn’t really bode well for the next assignment in the 256th Laundry and Haircut Bn.
USACAPOC dudes doing a six month TTAD in a Theater Special Operations Command be like.
Thought Leader
Yes.
You guys would love AFCEA.
Warrior… Patriot… They’ve all become meaningless hype-tags.
“Flâneur” 🤢
Nassim Taleb and I are still fight on sight.
“Servant leader”
Wonk
What about “flaneur?”
Right in the wood chipper
I think I know that guy
But have you considered that they are the most specialest of boys?
Feed them into the Great Wood Chipper and it will decide.
The self-effacing "dilettante" in my profile is meant as a nose thumbing at exactly this sort of person
“Raconteur” in the bio
Bespoke?
