I'm sure that's part, but by far the most trouble I had with it was in an asynchronous online class (which I was adjuncting, natch) that was more than 50% non-trad students: most of my students were married with kids and/or full-time jobs. But then, online async gets more cheating regardless, sigh.

It's hard not to sympathize with such students; I remember one poor woman who was a bank teller with several kids, and she had to finish her BA in order to get promoted to manager, even though she already had all the actual skills she needed.

I was very sympathetic! Which is why I spent so much time explaining the issues rather than just grading poorly. But man I burned out hard that way.
