They had their chance to hire an obsessive guinea pig owner who writes programs to scan Arabic poetry and relates everything back to Star Wars and 18th c. British literature.

And they failed. Basic bitches.
With their pumpkin spice lattes smh
Like why do we even let them onto campus?
Hey, don’t knock it. It’s 6:30am Wawa pumpkin spice coffee that powers my teaching week.
Well in that case, to paraphrase Lennon, whatever gets you through the week! I like Wawa actually too when I'm in the area
Can I just say, I learned the Arabic for guinea pig the other day and thought of you! That's better than being a prof, right?! Ahem... (I meant to say at the time but look I'm barely getting through the day here, I can't risk being on the internet for more than 2 mins at a time)
I actually don't know what to call them in Arabic! Arabic Wikipedia gives too many options so we just call them ginīhāt.
I’m still a fan of kubi 🥰
That is a lot shorter than whatever I was made to remember, maybe I'll use that too... Thanks, prof!
My pleasure doctor! Hang in there 💪
So I wanna say what I learned was literally "pig of the Indian Ocean" (so khinzir al-bahr al-hindiyi? I think...) because I immediately wanted to find out more but then I was too tired; story of my life. Also I'm clearly using "learned" very generously here, I know.
To be fair I think kubi is for the entire caviidae family anyway, which means it’s kind of wrong…
Well calling it a pig is also wrong lol
*throws up hands* well fine I guess I’ll just be incorrect in ALL THE LANGUAGES THEN
starting a fight with my cute fact was not how I saw this going
but also I learned Roman rabbit is an option so the fight is worth it imho
Roman Rabbit has some potential as a band name too
It is actually interesting, I hadn't thought of it. India? Wikipedia gives الكابياء الخنزيرية خنزير غينيا الكُوبِي خنزير الهند الخنزير الغيني الأرنب الرُّومي القبيعة It obviously can't be both an Indian Ocean Pig and a Roman Rabbit
I think I've amply demonstrated my eccentricity credentials by now btw if anyone wants to hire me for that
Although everyone in this conversation definitely passes that test as well with flying colors
yes, I think we have made this fairly clear (to our credit) relighted: kinda charmed by how all the origins mentioned in the names you listed seem incorrect?
That's true. They are probably the most geographically misunderstood animals after turkeys really.
