Did you get tax back then whilst getting repayments? I got hammered a bit on my payment in leu of notice due to three months going out in one tax month. Be nice to get some of that back before I do a tax return.

I was PAYE only at the time and was only signed on for a few weeks. Got my payment directly about a month after signing on. Can't remember if they overlapped. They did it automatically - I wasn't filling in tax returns in those days. It was in the middle of the tax year

Might have been slightly complicated in that I had gone to work in Gibraltar and that job fell through quickly. Got tax back from them and the UK

Fingers crossed. I don't know what the actual process involves; just worked as if by magic for me but this was 20 years ago. It was a major boost because things seemed grim. Hope it all works out for you quickly!
