Retrogaming take! While I have great affinity for the original Metroid, it is undeniably very janky. Moreover...a year after Metroid was released in Japan, Rygar for NES was released. It is also a Metroid style game, but as a matter of technical game design, it is superior in most every way.

I have! I played through it years ago on a PSP arcade collection, I think.
I need to revisit it, maybe the PS2 revival as well
The PS2 version is sooooooo good. A cool and interesting take on it, with fantastic music and art direction.
