When the democrats weren't the senate majority. They had chances to pass statehood and get rid of the filibuster back in 09/10 - and later again 2021. I don't recall seeing State hood bills being introduced then.

H.R.51 - Was interduced during the 2021-2022 House. It has sat with the Senate since 04/22/2021.

It’s a fundamental misunderstanding of political history to suggest there was ever a chance for Democrats in 2009 to get rid of the filibuster or pass DC statehood

Libs saying shit like this while trump is transitioning us wholesale to a an authoritarian religious ethno state is genuinely so funny. You still don’t get it. The rules are made up. They didn’t have the political will to do good things or they would have done them.

Why? They had a 60-40 majority.

With 20~ blue dogs (Conservative Manchin - Biden types) and less than a year to pass any legislation period. This is basic.

Manchien came in 2010, and wasn't regarding being the cuck he is today. So who knows how that could have turned in the senate back then. We'll never know because it wasn't introduced at all. HR 51, was put out into a 46-2-52 senate dead on arrival.

Liberman is very much the most obvious example that you would be permanently short one on making Roe law. And again, in under a year they had to do that. Not exactly feasible, and the obvious solution (Give Dems more seats) has never been tried again lol.

(I mentioned Manchin - Biden cause I truthfully didn't think you knew anything about the politics where as I, a literal child at the time, actually KNEW what was happening so I'm cursed to regurgitate it ad infinitum as people make stupid online statements like "They could have but didn't want too")

I just don't feel like the party is genuine in this incentive. They removed it from the party platform in 2004 - and readded it back in 2016....But you are 100% right to mention Manchein: Manchin came out against both H.R. 51 and S. 51, effectively dooming their passage.

The point re: Manchin being that in 2009, instead of Manchin and Sinema being the most retrograde senators, we had *several dozen* Joes Manchin on the Democratic side of the aisle in the senate. Dems have never held 60 seats with their current more-progressive makeup.

Im not versed in early Manchin to say. Seems like the best time may have been in 09, but it wasnt even in the party plan at the time.

(* Also not saying you said that just in general people very much do NOT understand how difficult getting even the ACA passed was.)

You're right. But they didn't make a serious effort either. They've never been willing to use the power the voters give them.

Indeed. They only care about DC statehood when they want a majority in congress.
