I agree, by the way. There should always be at least one outspoken commentator for each race. James Hunt was probably the first (in the English language - not sure about other countries) outspoken F1 colour commentator. Before Hunt, JYS (😉)was too polite and tactful. More Nico Rosberg, too.

Outspoken is good but they must be authoritative or at least very experienced. Hunt seemed more witty than knowledgeable. JPM has great experience, like Alonso, and seems very personable. My peeve is announcers insisting on full names, repeatedly, when we know which Max or Lewis.

Ah, got you. Lordy, everyone is at it. DC, JB, MB. At least JPM makes some sense, the long name being quite a mouthful.
