Also the last time I was in Chicago (for the 2017 People's Summit) I had SO much fun. Everyone seemed way more relaxed and friendly than folks in the Bay Area at the time, then I looked up rents in Chicago and thought, yup, that'll do it.

Yeah, the Illinois govt pensions are probably overly generous, although my mom is a beneficiary and it's keeping her very comfortable. I am incredibly grateful I don't have to worry about her.
