It looked like a nipple on the end of it. Is this how they wean them from their mother?

This would be an orphan baby! They rely on milk for a substantial part of their calories & concentrated nutrients until about 5yo. Keeping orphan elephant babies alive is very challenging, every single one is a triumph to return to the wild :)
