If nothing else, trans women deserve access to women’s bathrooms to save them from the cis men who never wash their hands. I did my own little study on this when I was responsible for letting customers into the bathrooms and cleaning them at night. Men overall weren’t using the paper towels…..

It also was worse in the Midwest than the West Coast. I had the same job in both places and there was a notable difference in paper towel usage in the men‘s restroom. Of course I didn’t exactly do a rigorous study on it and it was small sample sizes so it’s not very scientific lol. But STILL.

I agree that for whatever reason some don't wash or show any civilized restraint in the bathroom. Seems that the phobic and aggressive natures also make them slobs when they go to the washroom...

When I was about 21 I worked in a restaurant. As low employee on the totem pole (in the beginning) I had to keep the washrooms cleaned/stocked. The men's room was awful. Esp. that time someone jerked off in there, all over the urinal. And yes, I had to stock paper towels more in the ladies room.

When this senior citizen goes into the ladies room, all I’m worrying about is getting to a stall before I pee my pants. And hoping there’s soap in the dispensers to wash my hands!!

The only thing I'd add to that in these days is I hope it has paper towel and not those crappy hand drying blowers that gross me out!

Because me and my crew were science people, we called those hand dryers "bacteria blowers".

Let's be honest. Trans people are no threat to women in a public bathroom. Straight men are. They already pretend to be plumbers, electricians, whatever. Trans people are prone to physical and sexual assault in the men's bathroom. They are safer with us. We are safer with them.

Glad to see someone say the real problem: straight men. Any woman has seen pervs and bullies in the ladies room; some have been assaulted. Trans women aren't the worry. Now: What will the pervs and predators do when we cannot keep anyone with a penis who says "I am a woman" out of the ladies room?

The pervs with penises are already in there under other guises, they have not been waiting around for permission to wear a skirt before preying on women. With the addition of trans women we might actually have more security in numbers

I haven't heard that wearing a skirt is necessary to declare oneself to be a transgender woman. Mostly, I've heard that all one needs to do is say "I identify as a woman." It is an good point, though, that maie cispervs will be less likely to enter a ladies room if it contains transwomen.

The problem is not access to women or bathrooms - it's rape. So raise the mandatory jail time for rape, investigate rapes immediately, investigate rape kits. Tackle the crime of rape effectively across the board and we will all be safer.

I teach High School and some of my students are starting that journey to adulthood being the gender they feel most comfortable with. If you will their true selves. I agree they are simply trying to live their live. Straight phobic men are the problem.

I’ve also used coed and gender neutral bathrooms. Because all I care about is 1. Is it clean, and 2. Is there a bit of privacy. That’s it.

I may have in 1980. The woman in the next stall, in a dress and high heels, peed standing and facing the toilet. No problem. I only remember it because it was unusual. It never occurred to me to be concerned.
