He would still win if the election were held tomorrow because we’re a broken society. These polls are meaningless. That he’s not in the low 30s is a damning indictment of our morality.

There is an universal phenomenon : right-wing leaders never become very unpopular. In France, right-wing's Sarkozy, who has recently been condemned to jail for corruption, left with 36%. Meanwhile, left of center's Hollande, who had no such scandal, left presidency at... 5%.

It's the führer-prinzip : the chief is always right. If the chief is wrong, he is right and you are wrong. Roughly one third to one half of humanity have this brutish mindset. They follow orders. They cooperate with the secret police. They respect hierarchy. And they despise those under them.

The only way to destroy the popularity of a right-wing leader is by making him look weak. And that's difficult, because he is considered strong by his supporters even when being blatantly weak.

The German people didn’t turn against Hitler until many of their major cities were fire bombed by the allies. In our case, it may take bread lines in red states to achieve the same thing.
