Hot take of the day: "AI" as we're using the term isn't actually "artificial intelligence." It's a series of decision trees and aggregation. It can't create or invent. It can't judge or discern. Intelligence implies more than just information gathering. And we're not there yet.

AI is the most annoying buzz word of tech sales and marketing today. Not long ago, everything was touted as “smart.” Smart phone, smart umbrella, smart salad tongs. Now that smart stuff isn’t just smart, but it’s driven by ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. Ooooohhhhhhhhh!!!

I think Artificial Empathy should be developed in conjunction with Artificial Intelligence. Intelligence without empathy is extremely dangerous.

That already happened and is happening. The first AI models did not filter on racism and things like that. But they've all been aligned with sentiment analysis

Not sure if you’ve seen this, it’s quite long but, I think worth a listen. AI, especially the way it will effect our society over time, is (as you say) extremely dangerous! vm.tiktok.com/ZNeKaXBX5/

the thing I find funny is the concept of AI...it is just another computer program...not intelligent at all...only puts out info as programed...you are so right...we haven't gotten that far yet

That’s my experience with the limited #AI that an average consumer, like me, can use. But people a lot smarter than me really seem to believe that a truly **conscious** AI is the direction we’re heading. Also, the #DataCenters currently being used for AI use a tremendous amount of energy.

2. A working def tracing back to the Macy conferences mid-century w/ Margaret Mead, et al., was for collaborations among people + machines to perform beyond the capabilities of individuals. This is the only working def so far -- i.e., *always* social and cultural in context.

The trouble is that deep pockets affiliated w/ what's called the "TESCREAL bundle" have hijacked definitions, investments, publicity, discourse, etc., while injecting their subtext and priorities about eugenics, misogyny, and strongman politics in general www.dair-institute.org/tescreal/

Not really a hot take. Just a fact. "AI" is techbro marketing BS. It has never been and WILL never be intelligence in this incarnation. It's actually just machine learning. Fairly rudimentary decision tree logic, but with a gigantic stream of source data, done at mass scale, and at enormous cost.

AI is the appearance of intelligence, or more correctly "fake intelligence". It isn't actual intelligence, whatever that is. Sadly, AI can function in a job the same as real intelligence. For example doctors and lawyers and other database work. Through trial an error it can seem creative.

It's not independent self-conscious intelligence, but because of big data and neural networks, imo _artificial intelligence_, potentially useful or destructive depending on its use. Already a very powerful tool, it will likely affect all our future lives ever more. Not necessarily in good ways.
