Until recently there were benches in the plaza just to the photographer's left, but they were removed. There must be some intention to this, rather than an accident or oversight.

In Paris, benches are ultimately managed by the mayor of arrondissement, there are conflicts between the left-wing city administration which wants more, and the local right-wing arrondissements, which may remove them if residents fear they attract "troubles".
