It can slip into a person's lifestyle via culture, friends, etc., and can temporarily take away overthinking and daily stress--but it also can dull the peaks and valleys of life, get in the way of relationships, and adversely affect health. My saying: "Being sober is the best high there is."

I moved from my drinking parents to my drinking husband, 45 years later I am still drinking. I have tried to stop but it is hard to be around a drunk when you are sober. 😵‍💫

Agree. Alcohol can become part of an ethos that is reinforced by family gatherings, movies, TV shows, and commercials. Prescribed meds, e.g. naltrexone help some people quit. It is a positive risk to choose to be sober when others are not--you might find yourself outgrowing them in many ways.

No judgement. (I am in no position... as a bowl of ice cream is sometimes the only thing keeping me from screaming out loud.)
