I've been asking around about this: what effective resistance is there, when we're already at the part where they're willing to ignore court orders, and they're already disappearing people without due process. I'm feeling immobilised, and I want to actually help. What should I be doing?

I take it you can't get to a protest? There are bound to be people there who can point you in the right direction.

I'm in the SF Bay Area, but quite a long way from the cities. I could get to protests with effort, but a few questions: 1. What protests? (That's on me to discover) 2. Will Trump give a crap about CA protests? 3. If he cares, which is more likely: will he change policy, or crush dissent?

Find mutual aid networks in your area to join and/or support. I share so much of your hopelessness, but organized care and kindness are in fact revolutionary actions, whether they started at a protest or just online/in your neighborhood

Don't think of protests like that. Will they change anything? Fuck no. They'll be illegal soon enough. Because they show people they're not alone. Protests are great for networking if you're looking for people who want change.
