I had breakfast with a friend who works at the State Departmentβ€”been there for more than 10 yrs working at a very important desk. What he described is a shambolic State: things falling thru the cracks, sporadic cooperation with other agencies at best, morale is very low, ppl retiring, etc

I heard similar stuff from a friend who still works there as well. I feel like people underestimate the impact of a toxic work place on productivity. It also feeds into the resentment politics in which the regime is invested. Particularly terrible when the job is public service
