Very true. In fact, I hear sports is the single topic that most people (or most American men?) seem to want. I've read numerous takes from big accounts saying that the minimal sports community here is why this place hasn't taken off.

How can we change this one critical thing then? I'm not a sports person, so I can't begin to guess. How can we get the teams or big players like LeBron to start posting here?

I think fans are going to need to create their own “skies” for sports and teams, like #knickssky, which has been great fun. It sadly doesn’t help that the teams are still very active on X, and that the athletes get most of their engagement there and on Insta.
