Dinner is 6 pm @internethippo.bsky.social

You may not like that it takes 100 years to pass some watered down social welfare program because of the constitution but that's also what protects us from dictatorship [some dumb slob does dictatorship in 6 months]

When dems get power if they don’t pass the biggest welfare package since FDR I’m done with politics entirely

Our current situation has been 50 years in the making. The Right has been playing the long game and the combination of political climate, GOP control in both Chambers, and a malignant narcissistic in the Oval Office is a perfect storm for some good ol’ authoritarianism.

Dem loyalists will try to spin the narrative that dems have done SO MUCH... meanwhile, women are dying from abortion bans, trans people are being thrown under the bus, voter suppression is at an all-time high, trust in the government is lower than it's ever been...

... women's voting rights are on the chopping block, we still have mass shootings literally all the fucking time, (there have been over 300 this year alone, and I bet my left ass cheek almost no one knew that), debt continues to skyrocket, people still aren't being paid enough to survive...

I could go on, but I think the point is clear. The US is tragically behind the rest of the Western world by every measure. And the problem is that Americans are so beaten into acceptance of this bull shit, that they think every performative action made is some ground-breaking act of progress.

Just a little tack on here. 1. If saying true things makes Dems look bad, that's on them. 2. Anyone convinced not to vote for an entire party based on a social media post wasn't going to vote anyway. 3. I'm not getting paid to incentivize voters. That would be elected politicians. Go whine at them.

Things moved fast right after the Great Depression. FDR set top tax rates to 90% and instituted both Wellfare and Social Security. This great transfer of wealth to the bottom created a robust middle class. It has taken the billionaires 90 years to destroy that. We can move fast when motivated.

FDR's lack of concern for the way things were done took him to bad places sometimes, but it's hard not to long for someone willing to push the system to the limit for the sake of doing useful things.
