I understand your reaction and I sometimes bristle at those type of commentaries too. It’s not everyone and it’s certainly most prevalent in white America but I’ve seen a lurch toward absolute sedentary laziness for years now. I’m not trying to spread a vibe or propaganda. Just observation.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I was reading a book on consciousness recently & it talked about what we call lazy. Basically there’s a brain process that pushes laziness bc if we didn’t have a desire to conserve energy we’d burn more calories than we put in. I think as Americans we are

Of course! It’s always dangerous to make blanket statements like that and I sincerely understand the hurdles people face. I’ve been fortunate in my life and at the same time, I’m fairly lazy. I realize my privilege as a straight white American male. No question.

…stressed physically, mentally, & emotionally & it keeps us stuck a lot of the time, covid exacerbated these tendencies & we isolate more, take less social risks, depression abounds. Not denying or excusing laziness, just suggesting it may stem from a mass depression masquerading as rat race fatigue

Absolutely. We have failed as a society. We’ve succeeded at # of guns per capita, # of incarcerated per capita, and an overall middle of the road level of happiness. We are not the greatest country in the world. Not now. Not before.
