I’m not going to say a know that but I’ve heard a few different insiders say it now. My understanding is they were both being guided to pitch more to the middle rather than follow their own political instincts. Based on everything we’re seeing now, I don’t question those claims.

It was a bad debate because Biden was too polite to say "What the hell are you talking about?!?" It was written all over his face. Or maybe it was "What the Fuck?!?" Or Biden might have thought "Are you out of your fuking mind?!?" But he wouldn't say those things. It blocked him up self-censoring.
He also had a cold and was jet-lagged. But what you say is Biden's biggest disappointment for me. His "I should take you behind the woodshed" comment turned out to be the opposite of his tactics.

58M people didn't vote. 44M of those were not registered and couldn't have voted. Check my pinned post for more details. I think plain old voter suppression work. Maybe with some purging of voter rolls. That could have been Elon. Trump won by 1.25%, I think without having to look it up.
That sounds right, and about what I saw when I was tracking the vote count for a week after the election. Voter suppression was absolutely an influence, but I still think that how Biden was handled, the attacks on him from his own party, and not enough campaign time for Kamala hurt, too.
I came up with those numbers because media kept saying 1/3 of the voters didn't show up. And that we had 235M eligible voters. I wanted to know how many or those eligible voters were registered? If you're not registered, you can't vote. And you can't recount votes that were thrown out or turned away
I didn't look so much at the registrations as comparing the number of voters for each candidate in 2020 vs 2024. I tossed the numbers months ago, but I recall that there were about 60+M fewer voters overall. (I didn't look at registrations) but Biden had a higher gross number of votes than (cont)
Kamala the whole time. (About 12M if memory serves.) Anyway, registrations could account for most or all of that, but I suspect there are other factors too. Recounts should have been demanded at the time. Too late now.
See if you can find an article by Greg Palast. He makes a good case for how the votes were suppressed or disqualified. It makes much more sense than wifi power cords being tapped into by Elon's satellites.

I think I'm remembering there was a decrease in registered voters between 2020 and 2024. But I can't remember the numbers. I did this research in December for my own nerdiness. But I thought that was odd.

The label of the Demo party has always been "big tent". You're mixing up the DNC with the individual parties of the states. The National committee has one function. To get a president elected. It's up to the states & the state parties to support the candidates for congressional seats.

No. Wrong. 154M votes were cast 168M voters were registered 14M votes were either not cast or not counted That leaves 44M eligible voters who were not registered or purged from voting roles. 58M didn't vote but 44M could not vote anyway. Voter suppression works. Greg Palast has another view.
