My guess is that Reeves wants nothing to do with the larger continuity and Gunn is still begging him to let them connect š just the vibe I got from the interview

I'm thinking Gunn is a fan of the darker grittier take on Batman, but knows that his version needs to be more comic-booky and fantastic (you know, just like he said with his own mouth). We should get a shortlist soon on who the new Batman will be for the DCU.
