They are deporting ILLEGAL migrants, that’s people who haven’t claimed asylum or do not have a valid visa to stay here. These people don’t have a NI number and therefore to support themselves they work illegally, that harms the economy. These are not asylum seekers or legal migrants.
How do you know they haven’t claimed asylum?
Because once they have claimed asylum they have legal rights and cannot be deported until their claim is settled, unless they break the law. They can withdraw their claim and leave voluntarily if they wish but they can’t be deported.
But they are not specifically saying it’s visa overstayers etc. So for many it sounds like they are deporting asylum seekers, many don’t understand the difference.
I agree people don’t understand asylum/migration. I wish we could have an open discussion but I fear it maybe too late, Reform/RW Media has made it far too toxic. The right wing aren’t interested in the moral/legal obligations to offer shelter to those fleeing war etc. just the colour of their skin
They talk about migrants not asylum seekers. The Gov website sets out details of those being deported. Yvette Cooper posted details of a raid on migrants working illegally, being arrested, she was pilloried for it (I hated it too) but how do they get the message across as to the actions being taken.
My point is many people conflate the two, don’t understand the difference, don’t read gov.uk. The press and tv don’t help and use terms interchangeably.
