Is there anybody who can tell me the date on which all of this tariff insanity is going to make everything awesome? would it be during May or maybe during the second quarter or next year? I would love to know when it will all work.
Is there anybody who can tell me the date on which all of this tariff insanity is going to make everything awesome? would it be during May or maybe during the second quarter or next year? I would love to know when it will all work.
"It's coming in 2 weeks"
Lutnick said "Day 1"!!!! ...hold him to that
Let's ask Jared. Remember during the height of COVID he proclaimed we'd be rocking and rolling by April.
Don't hold your breath.
Just after the week with two Fridays. The same week that Trump is introducing his plan to replace Obamacare. You know, infrastructure week.
We'll see if we outdo Black Monday and then it all crashes from there.
ummmmm, Never! People need to buckle up that chin strap! Time to Rally.
There is very little evidence that these tariffs will ever produce this expected flood of manufacturing back to the United States. Factories take time and money to build, plus we are essentially at full employment. Certainly not immigrants. These are low paying jobs.
You don't need to be an activist to join the resistance. All roles, both active & non-active are vital to keeping the resistance networks safe & effective Support can look like... Logistics Ancillary Reconnaissance Tech support Boots-on-ground Leadership There's no dotted line to sign.. #RESIST
After we all have lost our homes and starved to death?
When Trump gets removed from office.
We are witnessing the fall of the American Empire at the hands of a terrorist oligarch cabal. Politicians and media are largely silent. The vast majority of Americans will have lost everything when this is over.
Huh, they never did provide an estimated date for that did they? Guess it'll just all magically work out. 🙄
I won’t be surprised if it takes a few months before we begin to know.
Next generation maybe 🤷🏼♀️
I've got concepts of a date.
2029 at the earliest
It will start working at 15:00 EST on Never
Sadly, you’ll probably be deceased
Any guesses on stock trading activity among Trump administration advisors in recent weeks?
Everyone eager to go to work in a T-shirt factory raise their hands! Everyone eager to spend $45 on a pack of socks raise their hands. We don’t maintain world-class infrastructure and educational system so people can assemble smartwatches 15hrs a day.
It will work. But it won’t be “awesome”. No business will make long-term investment decisions based on precarious protectionism. But the $6t tax on the 99% will empower the oligarchs and Trump personally, which seems to be the idea.
Not in your lifetime or the foreseeable future.
January 2027 when the Democrats take over the House and Senate and cancel the tariffs.
Define awesome
Any minute…. Bigly winning imminent.
It will work when everybody has forgotten what economic prosperity looks like
Most optimistic: 4 years at least of economic pain. And that's why trump has decided he's going to treat himself to a 3rd term. He knows he just nuked the working class for remainder of his second term. But even if trump reversed course tomorrow... trust in the US is permanently destroyed.
“at least” probably should be all-caps
IT WON'T but he couldn't care less!
Surely there’s a plan, right? 😊
I fear I will not live to see that date.
After Trump crosses over and Kamala is elected President.
"I'll circle back soon—right now, I'm channeling the celestial essence of '𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐴𝑚𝑎𝑧𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐾𝑅𝐸𝑆𝐾𝐼𝑁' and basking in his other worldly brilliance!"
May??? This is when the EU said it will announce how they'll retaliate to Trumps tariffs. There'll be another 1000 drop in the Dow, just wait.
trump says in 2 years America will have rebuilt manufacturing. He's delusional. It would take 10 years-- if the industrialists believed the economic benefits would accrue. Instead, we will have a depression.
It would take years, and that’s only AFTER considerable investments have been made. Biden’s signature legislative accomplishments (infrastructure, IRA, CHIPS Act, etc.) sought to boost industrialization in the U.S., but Trump is doing as much as he can to gut these efforts.
When we get nice, white, American kids with college degrees make t-shirts for 6 hours a day, four days a week. The shirts will start at $120 and fall apart during the first washing. That's greatness!
Why would a foreign manufacturing company relocate here with insane tariffs from other countries and an unstable government dismantling the very laws that would keep the companies safe?!
Somewhere around 12th of never. The captain has scuppered the ship and its reputation and standing is beyond repair.
If it's anything like Brexit in the UK , I think we are at 25 years
In the words of Johnny Mathis- until the twelfth of Never
Good One!
On the 34th day of the 13th month
According to the Acme Brain Trust In Chief, it’s already working. Congratulations!
is it true that russia was left alone on these tarriffs?
I can’t help you, pal. See, what you need is a white supremacist billionaire to explain all this, with a smirk on his diabolical face and a condescending comment or two about the elderly & children…the “undeserving poor” as he would elide
In one hundred years time, just like Brexit
When you are a multi multi millionaire capitalist who doesn’t mind squeezing every last dollar out of the pockets of poor as well as maximization of exploiting their labor until you can have the work automated by ai/robots.
The day trump and the g.o.p. are a shared bad memory.
Im sure it’s “two weeks”.
According to Trump, it's already working! Golden Age, he says, lol
Something this huge could take decades…
It's going to happen in 2028. That's why his sense of responsibility will make him do the sacrifice of running for a third term.
We are going to build the biggest banana industry in the world. That town in Hawaii that burned down will become home to Trump Bananas Inc
Judge Janine says this is all over by summer. Other weirdo Trumpers saying fall. So anywhere between summer and fall.
It won’t work. Just like trickle-down economics
The twelfth of never.
As soon as Elon & co. get to Mars
Listen to fox, you are already great and liberated.
The economy is going to have a big, beautiful expansion. And that might happen under the next president, but even then it will be because of Trump.
When pigs fly
It'll work well for the oligarchs when they're given the signal to 'buy' after the market has bottomed out and when the one in the control is ready to turn course. It's all about the rich getting richer. Wait and watch. It's market manipulation at the largest scale.
Jan 20, 2029
We don’t have factories. It takes 3-5 years to get one online. So, you’re gonna be rich or living under a bridge in about 6 years!
The 12th…of Never.
For Trump and the billionaires, things are already awesome. The markets crashed, billionaires swooped in and bought up all the stocks for pennies on the dollar, so when the market recovers they'll all be even richer. The plan worked exactly as it was meant to.
In two weeks...the same as the great health care roll-out.
September 31st.
When I run completely out of money.
Either February 30th or May 32nd. Definitely one of those two days.
After Trump’s third year in office…
It will never work. Sorry.
The Fukwit-in-Chief knocks it out of the park once again. Way to go Trump.
Never.
It will be when the Republicans turn against him. I know it sounds like science fiction. But the spineless can only take so much pushback.
Sure would have appreciated a “hey, you might want to save up a bit for the phase when our economy goes in the shitter” warning.
Simply look at the past, Reagan, Bush senior, nixon, "the Tariff act 1928 and then 1930" And look what came from that? and see how the world evolved around it. We should all be healthy/happy and prosperous, but the gap between the 1% and the rest only increased! It's not RED nor BLUE, it's the 1%!
They fucked up with “the sick patient is healing” metaphor because now EVERYONE will be asking them about the patient’s condition while the patient is going to get sicker and sicker.
When puteen is satisfied with how much we’ve eaten each other.
I would guess they'll claim it was about to work 2 weeks after they're out of power. Every country was just about to come graveling to the table until, something something Barack HUSSEIN Obama and George Soros
Manyana...aka, never.
Right after the close of infrastructure week.
Comeback tomorrow for free beer
“Soon. Very soon. “
Don't worry, David. You are going to become so rich, you're not going to know where to spend all that money
Don’t hold your breath.
When the orange orb releases his tax returns or his healthcare plan or…..?
I heard Leavitt say next Thursday. Just hang on a little while longer.
If it is anything like Brexit then it will go from instantly to next month to next year to next decade to fifty years, maybe.
It depends on who you're hoping it works for. If you're Putin (Trumps boss),it's already working. If you're a billionaire looking to dominate your market and eliminate all competition from medium to small businesses, then that may take 6 months. Either way, these are the 2 drooling right now.
After firing nuclear watchdogs, sharing military secrets on an app and using some simpleton formula for tariffs i think its pretty clear this administration has no fucking idea when things will get better
The grift doesn't work as well if you use specifics. Comon, David. You know this.
Short term pain is meant more in geological time spans.
The economy will take off after a Democrat takes over and reverses this nonsense. Then the GOP will claim their actions are why the economy is so good
February 32nd 6909 AD
Hmmm, looking into your world from the reality world of Australia I reckon the USA has a tough 2 or 3 decades a head of it. No one will trust you (the royal you ie the Government) for a loooong while.
6 years from now once the democrat president has halfway undone this and the relief starts taking effect.
When they’re rolled back, given time. If investor confidence is shattered rebound becomes difficult. Plus with DOGE’s mess, government investments curtailed which previously moved money into research and public spending. The economy needs this stimulation, too. We probably won’t rebound until fixed.
But I’m not an economist. Calling experts… @krankepantzen.bsky.social
Don't ask me, not my area of expertise. I'm more about normative than positive economics. But conventional wisdom and history suggest one shouldn't hold one's breath waiting for long-discredited tariffs and trade wars to pay off. Generally thought to set the stage for economic recession, depression.
I'm a dork and don't know what normative economic means. But thank you.
Not an indication of dorkiness at all, indeed some people deny the distinction, but "normative" concerns what people "should" or "ought" to do, about values, thoughts on ethics, morality, which I and others propose inherently subjective, and "positive" concerns what "is," objective fact, reality.
Normative economics is about policy recommendations, society should do this or that, this or that system or outcome is "socially optimal" and so on. Positive economics is about empirical prediction only. If we do this, we predict inflation will do that. It doesn't tell people what to make of it.
Because of their scientific pretensions, academic economists like to play up positive economics, despite they're generally using only arbitrary engineering models for prediction, not doing true accumulative science, and ignore, downplay normative economics, suppress discussion and debate about it.
But I would contend most or possibly all serious and significant economic debate is about normative not positive economics. It's not about which engineering models predict best, it's about interpersonal ethics, allocation of resources, resolution of interpersonal conflicts of preferences, etc.
Normative economics is not just the relatively trivial issue in the philosophy of science by which values, normative beliefs, ethics, morals may bias one's activity and judgment, it's about ethical philosophy, the normative propositions, conclusions, in neoclassical welfare economics and similar.
Damn, I probably should have slapped some tags on that. Fine. Discussion of normative economics versus positive economics coming at you. Or rather, see above. #EconSky #ethics
He’s probably looking to change it up during Network TV’s Sweeps week …. It’s always about the eyeballs
I’m still waiting for trickle-down economics to work, these 50 years later. If we give tariffs 50 years, they’ll work just as well.
The 12th of never is my guess.
The 10th of Never
Any day now, any day now
It’ll be in his third term, we’ll see results by then for sure. 😬
It will work at exactly 11:18 AM on July 18, 2025. Everything will be fine then. Sadly, at 11:19AM is when WWIII is scheduled to start. But hey! Enjoy that minute of respite!
Donald Trump is using tariffs to manipulate the stock market so him and his wealthy friends and family can buy cheap stocks. He is back at his golf motel again today with those wealthy friends and family celebrating their gains in wealth while the rest of us lose everything.
This is 100% it and what I've been thinking the whole time. It's the fact that the US is now controlled by oligarchs and market manipulation to ensure the rich get richer thru an intentional tank and then signal to buy at the bottom.
Trump is literally just a cruel idiot who doesn't know how anything works. Vance wants the total destruction of liberal morality so him and his buddies can remake the nation into a fascistic state. Money has very little to actually do with it, these guys are sincerely ideologically motivated!
Lutnick says rn. Factories will start popping up overnight. Unless he's lying?
🚩IRREPARABLE DAMAGE has been caused. It will take a couple Democrat administrations, minimum, to restore trade allies & undo economic damage. With Trump in office until 2029 my guess is that we're in this disaster UNTIL THE MID-LATE 2030's, if Democrat President elected in 2029. Longer if not. 😟
it will happen when trump decides to stay in Washington rather than go golfing. In other words, don't hold your breath ☹️
Building large factories takes a lot of years and it's doubtful anyone will take the risk after the economy implodes so probably never.
Not to mention that the construction of new factories will probably cost three times as much now.
Yeah “let’s shift our manufacturing over the next 4-6 years so we can avoid tariffs and sell products to a now destroyed middle class that can’t afford them!”
🤔
Like everything Trump says, it's just a fake cover story for fraud, corruption, and domination. He has a history of saying lots of things he doesn't mean at all. What's baffling is that so many buy into what he says as if he's some oracle.
Never.
It will be the second May of next year!
Not until Trump's third term...
Lutnick said q4 lmao. They think manufacturing plants are going to be built in 4 months.
manufacturing plants for every consumer product? this was never about any of that. this is just gangsterism, cutting off everything so ppl will pay them for access
First off, this is all fucking stupid. The US is the second largest manufacturer after China. The idea that the US doesn't create its own goods is a boldfaced lie specifically designed to install anger at the rest of the world. To point at as an explanation for shitty employment under the GOP.
Dunno wtf you're talking about man. The US manufactures goods, its also a 68% consumer economy that cant suddenly manufacture all of that domestically, or even anytime soon, and it wont. That isnt a myth or a lie or misinformation to confuse people, it's just trade.
Did you miss the part where I stated that the US is the second largest manufacturer after China... I was stating that the premise of the US not being a manufacturing giant is flawed if not an outright light used to push an idiotic ideology.
Yeah and what is it supposed to mean? conservatism isnt premised on US manufacturing. those are the two biggest economies in the world. the US manufactures things, and it changes nothing about any of this.
Ok, there's a largely adopted thought process that moving manufacturing overseas, untrue, has contributed to the employment opportunities declining domestically. That is a large part of the lie being pitched on why these tariffs are required. I was simply pointing out that it is untrue.
a great deal of manufacturing HAS been moved overseas or outside of our borders, most of that just happened over a century before most of us were born. I grew up in a former manufacturing company town that was a hollowed out shell with little to no opportunities
The ironic part is that red states use policies like low wages and unsafe work environments to attract businesses from blue states while they complain that China is doing the same thing to America.
right, they bust unions, gut regulations and evade federal labor laws. which is why while liberal media was declaring Biden FDR 2 the Most Pro-Union President I was screaming to high heavens about the Dem admin using the federal goverment to coerce states into complying with law, which they did not
I see you're still missing the point. The lie is that supposed offshoring of "hypothetical" US manufacturing jobs is being used to perpetuate the lie that the US isn't getting a fair shake in global economics nor available domestic manufacturing work. Not citing any real employment loss.
Ok, well that's a bit more of a cogent take on it. I mean, yes, the Trump people and by extension US conservatives are lying about trade & manufacturing and/or are too stupid & brain-fried by misinformation to understand, but at the end of the day they dont really care either
The entire US economy was remodeled through global trade bc consumer goods can be manufactured more cheaply & efficiently elsewhere & imported. US labor is mostly in the service industry. This happened. You can read about it. its like 10% of US labor in manufacturing and like 80% in service jobs
And service jobs pay more and are better suited to the world-class infrastructure and educational system we’ (until recently) invested in.
Yes, I agree with you.
The last time a country ( if we can call the Soviet Union that ) tried to make everything themself it really went down hill fast
He will get to be King for countries will gravel at his feet. This is trump’s dream come true.
It won’t, unfortunately…
Why worry about it? When we're all dead, we won't have to worry about Quarterly reports
This feels like the underpants gnomes in South Park
Any day now, maybe within a couple of weeks...
I’m gonna go with Smarch 32nd.
BEST POSSIBLE case: how long does it take to build a new factory in the United States? A quick web search suggests: two to five years.
Who wants to build anything in an unstable place ? That’s an investment you rather do else where. Just like you rather wouldn’t invest in the s&p500
It a slippery slope, once it starts to roll it will pickup momentum on it's way down. It doesn't get better, just has the appearance of better because at the bottom everything above looks better.
Last I heard it was the 12th of never. Buckle up. Gonna be a rough ride.
The 12th of never.
Correct. Not the 10th, not the 185h. Nice try
Once we are starved into obediance
According to Trump, it'll take at least 2 years to finish building factories here in America so manufacturing can start happening. Which means it'll likely take 5 - 10 years, so, 5 - 10 years.
The world has moved on, no one is 'coming to America' to open manufacturing; trump has pushed former allies into the arms of China (post-Mao China might I add for context) at breakneck pace. People want to live a decent life. The US is going all in North Korea-mode.
I tend to agree. The end goal with all this chaos is to make Trump a half assed dictator leading a failed state. Much like Russia.
Leavitt tweeted today that it was this morning because 228,000 jobs were added and the economy is “roaring” Maybe she used to count on the Fox ticker for stock updates…..heard that’s gone
It will be in year 2084, 6th of january. You got to be a little patient until then
6/3257a.d and 7/3257a.d
It is working right now, Just not for the American people.
Howard Putz-nik said Q4. I said he’ll be gone by then.
Oh its not instant? So i still have time to stock up on Coffee a d Chocolate and wine. Im also worried about if there comes a time when there is a world war? What do we stockpile before then
I don't think they want to give a timeframe because we can not even fathom how wealthy each and everyone of us will be. I'm trying to dumb myself down enough to think like a red hat. So, trust me bro it will be great again...well, for once anyway, since most of us were never wealthy.
I do hope that reporters begin to press for a timeline because to date one hasn't been defined. This is how we call bullshit!
It's already working for China their free trade portfolio of nations is multiplying daily. America now has no allies and will shortly have no trade.
Tuesday (week, month, year tbc)
We’re supposed to trust chump and be patient because he always come through in the end..
Tuesday, Smarch the 37th.
You just “fold it in, David”.
US steel producer Cleveland-Cliffs just laid-off over 1200 people. Cleveland-Cliffs holds 18% of the US market and is a key value chain indicator of whats to come. Auto maker Stellantis just laid-off 900 people from it's Kokomo, Indiana plant.
Jan 20th 2029. When a New Democratic Party represents Americans.
We’re more likely to see a new Business Plot than see an ounce of added prosperity from these tariffs.
I'm reading 10 years from now
His 3rd term.....
Does never have a date?
All I can think of is he heard "Great Depression" and thought, I can do better: "The Greatest Depression"...
Well, considering how long it took last time ðere was a tariff hike, it’ll be sometime in 2035
His plan to make the USA industry strong can't feasibly be done in one year or four. So, the retaliatory tariffs will be quicker than them getting that infrastructure up and running.
Lutnick said Q4 of this year, of course that’s bullshit but still.
I'm really starting to like the multi universe theory. I'd just like to find a way to one without Trump, Putin or Musk. To one where people aren't homeless or without healthcare.
Give me a sec...
Don’t hold your breath!
You just gotta trust Trump!
Just fell the pain till it trickles down
Yesterday Trump said two years.
Ask #RonVara #Navarro , I mean #DonDavidson , maybe knows @maddow.msnbc.com
01/04/2075
a famous man once said in 2020 that it’ll all go away by summer
I'm sure the people losing their money, losing their jobs, paying more for everything want to know too.
Is 2028. Trump objective is further tank market/world economy. Goal: 1) push middle class further down increasing fin loss, fear & submission 2) enable him/oligarchs to buy up markets 3) declare only his path & 2028 stay in office can fix. W/ cont’d majority congress abdication & tariff throat hold.
shush little lamb, it's time to trust the plan
The day after never
Either on “Day One” or in “Two Weeks”. It’s all part of the Big Concept Of A Plan.
Well into the next Dem or Independent’s first term
Sometime after the next Great Depression, when the GOP is completely annihilated, if history at least rhymes.
I would like to know as well.
18th day of Never.
It’s going to be during July 4th and he’ll call it “INDEPENDENCE DAY PART 2”, but in reality no one will be celebrating bc who is going to be able to cookout or by fireworks in this economy??
Nobody can answer that question cause They WERE ALL FIRED so they wouldn't be able to tell us all the TRUTH 😠
Vote in this Sant Antonio poll. We need to pierce the MAGA veil. news4sanantonio.com/question/vot...
Right after midterms is my guess.
Didn't he say we need the 100 year plan like China? So that seems like a good timeline. No?
When Trump's co-conspirators have cashed out their shorts and defensive assets, bought up growth stocks, and can benefit from rising markets after mass fear, desperation and resistance have led to Trump using 1868 Insurrection Act to enable domestic use of military and further fascist crackdowns?
Oh, you meant awesome for everyone else, not the Trump cabal? It is not designed to work in the traditional non-fadcist sense of the word.
Tariffs cannot make things better. If we cannot manufacture products cheaper than other countries how are we supposed to sell those products? If workers in Vietnam/Bangladesh only make 10k a year what products are we exporting to them? This move is nonsensical from a trade perspective.
About the time the Bears win the Super Bowl.
Agreed! It's making it really difficult to plan a future.
Totally hope he just gets bored and goes away
I'm predicting the 12th of never. It's not just the tariffs but the ripples. Makes the US completely untrustworthy, unreliable, and unpredictable. What Turnip has done you don't do to allies. The only country not to get tariffs imposed? Russia.
Never?
Never of course. It will destroy trade relationships for a generation or more. US brands will be shunned world wide
Howard Lutnik was on CNN yesterday. He said it take 2 quarters.
NEVAH!!
When we drive him out of the country, and ship him to Russia.
hE’s pLaYiNg 4d cHeSs
As soon as Nike is incentivised enough to make all their clothing in the U.S. I bet that was What that 84% tariff of Vietnam was all about. Bring sweatshops back to america!
