Yeah things are really bad! If "no dooming" is meant to preclude acknowledging as much, that's bonkers imo Not least because you can't change how bad things are if you don't first grapple with them

That we are, in fact, doomed without monumental effort to change our fate should frankly go without saying at this point
I have been trying really, really hard to be generally positive as befits someone whose job it is to teach civics all day every day, but I somehow cajoled myself into watching Garland's Civil War again this evening and it has darkened my mind in ways I didn't think possible the first time I saw it.
Haven't seen it and don't plan to lol, but like People gotta realize that it's going to take serious work to push us off of the path to actual civil conflict
It's absolutely worth seeing despite the psychological damage it'll cause. I don't think there's a better film to point out the flimsiness protecting American exceptionalism from being Just Like Everywhere Else. But I agree that the path there is hopefully more distant than the film makes it seem.
I’m getting increasingly discouraged by people using their followers to shout down or their pulpits to punch down on others for advocating being proactive rather than reactive in their thinking and approach. You need to be ahead of them and not behind them. You want to err on the side of caution.
Lol no
?
(We're never doomed until we're all dead, and yes, there will be a lot of effort involved)
Even I who thinks that monumental effort is more likely to be forthcoming than at any other time in my life, I still don't think it's forgone and mechanistic.
Can you say more?
Democratic voters are madder then they've ever been in my memory.
Oh I thought you meant we might still be not doomed if we missed our shot
Yeah I also kind of thought this
Our shot is still coming but it'll be bad if we miss it, I think
I mean of course not! Everybody’s still got to do all the stuff. Nothing’s automatic. I guess what I’d just say is the alternative to “everything getter better until perfect” is not and never is “doom”. Things are worse or they’re better and you aim to get to “better”.
“Doom” isn’t real, which is why we’re so ornery about the whole concept on here. DEATH is real but if yourself aren’t dead you’re also not doomed, and neither is your country.
It's one of those irregular verbs, init? They doom, you recognise badness, I do current state analyses.
