It shocks me to see them at the low water dam in the Arkansas River, in Tulsa Oklahoma.
They always make me think of prehistoric times...
Evolutionarily convergent w/ pterodactyls. Not wrong. For a bonus, in that same river - about 5 miles downriver from there - there is a native population of small freshwater sturgeon. There is very little kind I have to say about OK. But that's so weird I can't help but love it.
