So much of recent history can be explained by the popularization of this idea that empathy and compassion are somehow gateways to evil. When our species dies out and this planet becomes a lifeless rock, it will be this ideology that got us there.

Jesus showed kindness to the least of us. Jesus being real or not, those stories have real power and influence over people's minds and thoughts. I kinda liked reading about Jesus, who gets angry when evil is put in front of him, over Yahweh, who sacrificed himself to himself to save us from himself

Interesting fact Matthew 19:4 is almost certainly a later addition to the text because it describes a dramatic departure from the Jewish tradition around marriage and divorce and would have never been uttered by someone described as a rabbi by the author(s) of the book of Matthew

Man, sorry my brain just de facto cares about other human beings, I guess I'm a vessel of sin. Oh wait, that shit doesn't matter! Empathy is legitimately one of the things that defines humans, and I'm not surprised to see these kinds of folks find some way to equate compassion and care to sin.

I've always had the theory that some people feel empathy for other people, and respond negatively to it, because how dare those other people make me experience emotional pain? This could lead to people considering empathy to be a bad thing, because it hurts.

Much of the maga character is a lack of empathy by successful upper middle class conservatives, either high seniority UAW, or family business owners who feel aggrieved that others want a similar slice of the pie. but it's 'Fuck you, Jack; I got mine', and their success has made them thin skinned.
