A nice lady on the (infernally hot) bus (I ought to have walked) was visiting London and asked, sensibly, if she needed to tap out on leaving. I said not. You risk paying more. I could see her (wisely) weighing up my credibility. In the end I said, “Trust me. I’ve lived here for 25 years.” She did.

Is entirely the opposite in Leicestershire. I can understand the whole narrowing of eyes that occurred. And yes, it was much fresher off the bus today, even up here. Only 31°!
