It happens here in 🇨🇦 too. When a couple married with no pension have to divorce because one of them must go into care. This is the only way the other spouse can keep the house and continue to survive.

No pension? Every Canadian gets OAP and CPP. I never heard of this situation before and I have been around 78 years.

Sorry. When I refer to no pension I mean businesses with no-pension plan. Yes we all get OAP and CPP. But try living only on that and pay for a care facility for your spouse who has never worked but stayed home. In my rural area most businesses don’t have pension plans.

I thank God for living in Brazil. Here, the health system is public and universal, and even with some problems, access is infinitely easier.

That is disgusting... we never even give a thought to this kind of issue here. Our healthcare may not be perfect, but it's free at the point of need for all citizens.... at least for now. There are those with a different agenda who would destroy it.

The "big beautiful" American healthcare system has become a larger cause of divorce than most people realize. The politicians always speak of providing "access" to healthcare. We still can't afford it! The hell with access, we deserve a right to healthcare, without the fear of inability to pay.

The US healthcare system is ~2x as expensive per capita as Canada's. Where do people think that money is going? There's a big incentive for corporations to bring that system here, because there's a huge pile of money for them to slurp up. Which is why they love politicians like Danielle Smith.
