Because they would love to turn those huge sums of money into funds that they can 'win or lose' on the stock market ... all while taking a fee every month for "administration" of "your" money. And what happens if the market crashes again? I lost my 401K in 2008. I have nothing but SS. What then?
They should already have the funds in interest bearing accounts with the interest going to the taxpayer. Take, take, take.
Would you trust any bank to manage your guaranteed funds? I don't. And, I haven't used a profit-making bank most of my life. Only when I had no other options.
