History teachers are going to avoid teaching about Trump just like they limit what they teach about John Tyler, James Buchanan and Andrew Johnson.
History teachers are going to avoid teaching about Trump just like they limit what they teach about John Tyler, James Buchanan and Andrew Johnson.
What they need to teach about both Hitler and Trump is the slow path that lead us here. Most what I've read focuses on the path to Hitler's end, not the road that got him there.
Globally his name will become the byword for corruption, cruelty and malicious incompetence. I expect all around the world history teachers will teach about MAGA like they did the rise of the Nazis.
Except, he is grand example for teaching why the Founders constructed the Constitution the way they did. And in that, he will be debased and ridiculed as a failure.
If teachers use Trump as an example of what the Constitution was designed to protect us against, they will also have to teach how and why it failed to do that. I think that latter bit is the more important lesson.
I think both of these are important lessons.
No argument. But is the Constitution itself the failure?
The Constitution is like the Ford Model T. A groundbreaking invention in its time, it served its purpose for many years and can still be driven today. But it's not designed for today's needs, which its inventors did not anticipate. Tweaks (amendments) to the base design can only help so much.
Jefferson foresaw exactly this when he recommended to Madison the Constitution be rewritten every 19 years (it would be a little longer using today's average lifespan). He reasoned amendments ultimately would not be sufficient. One can love the Constitution but still see the need for it to change.
I hope he’s vilified 100x worse than Woodrow Wilson or Nixon ever were. Just having that last name needs to be such a black mark that his descendants decide to legally change theirs
As long as they teach about Jim Crow, we will be fine!
A law is in order banning saying the name Trump just like the Germans made the Hitler salute illegal. He deserves no place in history. Put him in the category of a banned book.
No. The story needs to be told, warts and all.
This high level trolling.
I don’t teach American history. But I always teach failure.

They will refer to him m as the biggest mistake America ever made.
Twice
Just ignore him completely because he has not done one positive thing for this country. We currently live in a sh*thole.🤨🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
No. The entire problem is that he wasn't taken seriously in the first place. If anything, students should have to spend an entire semester on Trump alone, so that they fully understand what happened and (far more importantly) WHY. Also, how.
MAGA wants America’s children to be stupid and only learn what they feel is important. How will our children and grandchildren be able to compete with foreign students? Very sad 😢
I don't think parents will ever want their children exposed to the filth that is Trump.
like they limit what they teach about Ronnie Raygun
They should teach this, just like they teach the Holocaust. He should be remembered with the likes of the ilk of humanity.
I sure wouldn’t. That sounds like a hill worth dying on.
I fucking hope not, if the country survives, it will be imperative to teach kids how we nearly made it crash and burn.
Or he will be lauded a hero a la Jefferson, Adams and Jackson This is amerikkka
I’m pretty sure Oklahoma’s public school curriculum teaches that the 2020 election was rigged and stolen from Trump. www.npr.org/2025/05/14/n...
May his memory be removed from the annals of history and his face blackened out for all time.
Wouldn't you?
Or hopefully tell the truth about him and he’ll be like Benedict Arnold an accursed name in American history. Nobody remembers the hero Benedict Arnold was in the battle of Saratoga in Revolutionary War or other battles before his defection, just his treasonous act of defection.
We need to teach what a fascist he is and how he hates is own coumtry!
Are those the three boys from that Tim the Tool Man show?
And Andrew Jackson, the orange blob's fave.
I’ll never forget one my students saying (after learning about Jackson), “Wow, he was a bad man.”
I certainly hope not. They should treat him like the scourge he is and repeat it endlessly. We shouldn’t forget this moment in history so that we don’t have to repeat it.
Paul that’s a good one. 👍
Not sure I agree. This mess, if we get through it will result in a lot of changes in laws, the constitution and the Supreme Court. This is history that will be a, must be taught event, maybe on par with the Civil War.
History not learned is history doomed to be repeated
To clarify, I don't theoretically disagree with you. But I'm frustrated that it didn't work out in practice.
We all know about Hitler, and yet here we are.
Absolutely 💯
We need to teach the next generation about how and why so many Americans fell for that con artist-thug
We should never forget
They want you stupid
Unless we follow Germany’s lead about how they teach about Nazism & the Holocaust. So it 𝓷𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓻 happens again.
Speaking of trump, where is he? Don't think he's been seen since Tues, that Dear Leader eulogy fest of a cabinet meeting. Yesterday VP No Name said he's ready to take over as prez...🤔🤨
Add Andrew Jackson and Reagan to the mix. And Shrub Sr pardoning all of the Iran/Contra thugs. I’m still pissed.
Maybe we won't be here when the teachings of tRump happen but I'd like to think this was great lesson and the truth would be told. I'm not naive, I see how this web was spun, but I "hope." It never could've happened without evangelicals, billionaires and all the racists among us.
Maybe that’s a mistake. How can we learn from our mistakes if we ignore them.
Didn't Germany do that for decades about the Nazis?
They need to teach about these assholes so that the next generation doesn't get sucked in by people like them!!
Agreed. Shed light on these assholes as much as schools teach the atrocities of the Holocaust in History class.
They should teach it like they would about Hitler.
Don't think so friend. Trump exists in a very different era.
I dunno, seems like a fascist take over by an adjudicated rapist might be kind of a big deal in history class
Donald Trump, while part of American history, has no fucking business being taught in schohols.
History, if forgotten, is doomed to repeat itself.
Then he needs to be taught as a reminder of how BAD things can get if not careful.
Yeah. That's history. Otherwise you're just teaching mythology, which is how we got here in the first place. Our history classes, especially at younger ages, is just idealized mythology.
That's all he deserves: a masterclass on what NOT to do.
*schools*
... not to mention Christopher Columbus.
I hope his grandchildren change their name
I’m listening to an audio book now called “Lies My Teacher Told Me”. All I can say is EVERYONE should read/listen to it!
Got it and use it to double-check what I teach. Can’t imagine what’ll look like when they reprint it!
