I use grey to describe a mood liked “it was a grey and dreary day” but also to describe the color of my favorite sweater to wear on such a day – “I pulled out my favorite grey wool sweater to match today’s cold and grey weather.”

I use gray as in, “OMG that monochrome gray kitchen is horrible” or “Damn it! I have to get the hairdressers this week to get my gray roots colored”. Actually. I lied. I use the spellings interchangeably and for no particular rhyme or reason.
