I actually did part of one of mine this year (Bucharest -> Brasov -> Sigosihara -> Budapest -> Vienna -> Munich, all by train). Which makes me want to do more city-skipping by train, desperately. Maybe in southeast Asia. Or city-skip the Black Sea coast.

Sounds pretty amazing. I'm very jealous. Not that you'd need me to tell you this, but in case it hadn't quite come to mind, working in a ferry here and there can be immensely satisfying, too.
India is great for train trips, if you plan your tickets well in advance.
Regrettably, mine involves taking the Trans-Siberian railroad from Vladivostok to Moscow, which is decidedly not in the cards even if I won the lottery.

Trains are amazing. I dream of a world where more trains roll onto ferries and roll off the other end, linking the world and its islands.
I would like to live in that world.
It'd be a better world. (I mean currently the world I really want to live in that seems actually possible except for the politics of it is a direct connection train from the ferryport at Holyhead to the Eurostar, or at least to London.)
(Or for ferries to run Dublin-Liverpool again. *Liverpool* has a direct line to London.)
