Not just "many" - I was at a presentation back in '99 or so, from a staffer (or former staffer, can't quite recall) who laid out to us (a group of finance journalists) how SS worked, and he said that basically all the problems get solved for 50 years if you remove the limit on the payroll tax.
And that 50 year number assumed no economic growth (which is something a lot of folks ignore -- the productivity per worker today is an order of magnitude higher than in 1945; we could theoretically have 3 retirees per worker and it all still works, though that would mean a ~15-20% payroll tax)
Of course a lot of problems do solve themselves too, since the Baby Boomers are starting to die. 30 years from now odds are I won't be collecting either.
