So the USA was supposed to fight the Nazis AND the USSR. Yeah, sure, that would have gone well.

the invasion of Japan proper never happened. the administration and DOD, BARELY, balked at sending a million men, as the INITIAL invasion force. Patton warned of the Cold War. He offered a plan.
Patton was a hammer, so everything looked like a nail to him. There was no plan that wouldn't have turned into a bloodbath as WW2 morphed into WW3. The Soviet army was huge and very experienced by 1945. Bad idea.
the soviet army was bloated and full of largely inexperienced and poor equipped recruits, not unlike the front line russian troops of today.
it was also overstretched, with troops on either side of it (the invasion of the main Japanese islands was being prepared), not to mention mother nature, to contend with before they got home. it is a clear example of appeasement costing more than dealing with it head on.
"Dealing with it head on" !!?? The cost in lives, resources, and damage to an already screwed up Europe is unknown so you statement makes no sense. Going into a war with the USSR as nukes were being developed could have had decades long consequences. It's madness to consider such a war as Ike knew.
“decades long consequences”, like nothing’s been resolved, the Soviet empire rebuilding, McCarthy’s dream coming true in a fashion such as to give him a hard on, even as he is now!?
Ike was by FAR more capable and had superior military knowledge than Patton.
patton did what made ike look bad. he took positions in less time and at less cost than ike considered possible.
Yeah, Patton attacking soldiers in the hospital did make Ike look bad. As did Patton outrunning the incredible logistics Eisenhower was doing. Who could expect Patton to know guns need bullets, tanks need gas Patton might have made a good Sergeant. Ike is one of the best Generals in history.
one that made Ike look bad, no different than Trier.
