I think underlying this mentality, which imo is widespread and subconscious for many, is the idea that Trump is part of a big movement, so even if he dies the movement keeps going strong, but Biden was completely alone and liked by no one, so his admin would die without him since it was *just* him.

Unironically the most progressive amd pro-Labour President since Lyndon B. Johnson. A final glorious last charge of the blue labour aristocracy; before it crashed into the dirt of white grievance and class treason.

"Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line" ...you'll never have a Trump figure in the Liberal leaning political party, the disarray is a feature...not a bug.

Meanwhile us history-knowers are mentally prepping big bowls of popcorn (and then much more serious things) for when the GOP devolves into faction warfare over whatever daddy left them in the will. Vance is next in line but he doesn't have the force of will to unite all racists under his banner.

When really the exact opposite is true. Trump is the head of a personality cult, so his death will lead to chaos and a bad scramble for power. Whereas Biden dying and power passing to Harris would have been so seamless many would barely notice.

Well that's the other thing, I genuinely believe people felt threatened by Biden's lack of ego. The change to Harris would have been seamless, but it threatened their vision of masculinity. "Goddamnit we want the guy in charge who's Strong and Tough enough to make it all about him!"

The press both believe and get to manufacture it. Even when Biden is popular or Trump is unpopular you can go visit the Ohio diner where everyone will love Trump forever, and present it as the authentic grassroots support of the Volk.

Oh quite a lot of it is cult ot personality I'd say. But we also need to contend with the fact that this is something the public will want to take if they're offered it, so we need two political parties responsible enough not to offer it.

maybe, though it might be the opposite - Biden is an interchangeable cog in a center-left complex. dying is the most "dramatic" and therefore interesting thing he could do. Biden's show was boring! if Trump dies, the Trump show is over, and the Trump is the star of that show, which must go on...

This is correct, people wanted excitement. There was this massive sentiment leading into the 2020 election that "we just want politics to be boring again!" and it was a total lie. People want politics to be exciting and full of edge of your seat thrills, even if they *think* they prefer boring.
