I spent a lot of time trying to convince people to vote for Kamala even though she didn’t perfectly align with them. And that take is still bullshit. Thinking dems incompetence didn’t play a part in ~all this bullshit~ is head in the sand thinking that will lead to continued losses
Totally agree. Lots of Dems had a pet policy that had to be enacted or prevented from being enacted. If that wasn’t promised, they stayed home on Election Day or had a protest vote. Stupid and entitled…. and maddening to hear them complain now.
Perhaps this is an overestimating the power of the Democratic Party. Only 24%of registered voters were registered as Democrats in 2024 and that number is falling. We need community level organizing to rebuild the Democratic Party and fast. But where is that happening?

The text in the Gallup article about this chart says it is a tie between Republicans and Democrats (range of error). Democrats need to win and beat Trumpism. That's going to require building a strong base. We can't ignore the current weaknesses in the Democratic Party.
I’m a former independent who registered as a Dem to be able to vote in my primary. I’ve stayed, but don’t agree with everything. And I’ve had red lines in the past. That’s a luxury we can’t afford. I think/hope dems will kvetch but vote in 26 so we have a democracy in 28.
I dont buy the media hype about this. Charles Gaba reports that Dems have overperformed by 15 points in special elections since Trump took office. Gallup says more people are now identifying as Dems than Rs. Right leaning Rasmussen predicts Dems will outperform Rs in the next general election.
Gallup reports "the Democratic Party’s 34% favorable rating is the lowest Gallup has measured for the group in its trend dating back to 1992. The prior low was 36% in November 2014" I agree it is nice that some progressive Democrats have done well. Feels good but doesn't fix the bigger problem.
As I've pointed out, the problem is white voters. Dems haven't won a majority of white voters since the passage of the Civil Rights &Voting Rights Acts. Not a coincidence. They will be an ever present problem, made worse by Obama's presidency. Read this book...
Totally agree with you, white voters are the problem for Democrats and thanks for the book recommendation.
Not necessarily progressive, they were a spectrum of Dem options. The plurality say THEY WILL VOTE for Dems. It's predicted we'll do better than Rs. Good enough for me.
About same no of gop registrants. In both cases, those are a lot of votes. My campaign to Dems would be pretty simple. Get off your ass and vote or you get a monster. At the end of the day, if folks are too dense to grok this, I can’t keep grinding my teeth. We like Canada. Je parle français.
Canada is attractive.
Ikr!
This is not hard. If you have the means or time, support solid candidates who can win. And here’s the really easy part….vote for the decent human being.
Fight like hell in the primaries but vote for whoever will get you closer to world you want for yourself and your kids in the general. But, yes, don't stay home. Democracies are of and by the people. We have to fight to make sure they are for the people.
I've never voted for a 100% perfect candidate...and I never will. Expecting perfection is childlike thinking.
You’re misinterpreting what I’m saying. Obviously I voted for the significantly better candidate. But all that aside, dems have a lot of work to do. And they don’t even seem to know it
What "dem incompetence" specifically?
For starters, their lack of messaging in what should be the easiest opposition message in history. They’re also are incompetent at being an opposition party, unable to fight with the ferocity the moment calls for. If they fought, they’d gain support. Instead, they’re wet noodles
Stop the "Dem messaging" trope. People know the policies we'd implement. Our policies win when presented as ballot measures. The white people just don't want to vote for the party with black people in it. Dems haven't won a majority of white voters since passing the Civil Rights Act. Coincidence?
This is a great example of what you’re arguing against lol. You’re essentially saying voters are too stupid to vote for people who support their policy positions. Everyone who doesn’t support dems is racist. Fucking horrible messaging that will win over no one
“They love our policies but hate us as people. But we don’t have a messaging problem” lmao
When religious and racial bigotry is the central organizing principle of the GOP, messaging better won't impact anything.
You’re messaging is “not voting for dems makes you a religious fanatic and/or bigot”, while dems continue to lose despite having widely popular policy positions. Hmmm wonder what’s up there
The Birther Movement, Tea Party, build a wall/ban all Muslims and the attacks on CRT, DEI, Woke, public education, and Blacks are eating the dogs conservative narrative for the last 17 years are all based on religious and racial bigotry.
Nope. Observing that the majority of Republican votes are due to religious and racial bigotry makes messaging irrelevant. Real economy voters and real deficit voters and real law and order voters ALL vote for democrats.
Any specifics? Just being negative about people ignoring the obvious isn't helpful.
"Perfect is the enemy of good." Voltaire-ish.
I think you’re wildly misinterpreting the point I made
I'm not. Just a general observation supporting your point.
I understand your frustration, but dismissing it as nonsense doesn't change the reality we face. Sometimes, it's all about making the best choice possible in the moment, even if it's not perfect.🙃
