yup. standard operating procedure for me is to email the hotel in advance to let them know to not acknowledge I'm staying there/do not forward calls, and also to reinforce to front desk to never fucking say my room number out loud

Proper hotel etiquette is to write your room number down and to show that to you when they hand over room key. They should never advertise that out loud, indeed.
